The self in a state of disorder, striving against resistance, seeking transformation – a universal narrative found in various forms: the crucifixion, individuation, metamorphosis, polymerisation. These expressions are analogous to the internal course of energy, developing amidst tension and interference. The Path to Attainment is my own identification, a dialogue where I find clarity in the effort of ascension.
The four conditions – Immaterial, Mental, Physical, and Material – are not fixed stages but states in continuous flux. Immaterial is spiritual, where energy flows freely, peaking in potential. Mental is introspective, focused on contemplation and critique. Physical is outward, grounded in practice, discipline, impulse and sensation. Material is the culmination, the act of realisation and attainment. To linger too long in any one state is to invite suffering. The Immaterial leads to detachment from reality, a puer aeternus state. The Mental, to neuroses, repression, a mind adrift without anchor. The Physical, to mirrored forms of disconnection: hedonism and asceticism. The Material, to avarice and shallowness, surfaces mistaken for truth.
Each of us is naturally attuned to one or more of these conditions, shaped by a complex interplay of personal and external forces. But to find harmony is not to resolve the tension; it’s to align with it, to learn the tempo and endure it. It’s Only the Rhythm.
